Very Happy New Year!
Hoping you had a great festive season, with good company, good food, and, of course, good music!
2018 was a great year of writing and recording for me, as well as exploring and playing around central Europe.
On the music front, late July I met with the band and had a very productive session, old-school, recording 20 songs in three days. As in previous sessions, the organisation, passion and musicianship of the band made it possible. John Blease was fresh from touring with Robert Plant. Simon Little (Divine Comedy) provided inspired bass, Christian Marsac, acoustic finery, Ross Stanley (Ronnie Scotts, Gregory Porter) joining with dramatic and atmospheric piano and organ, Dave Ital, epic electric guitarist (M People, Chaka Khan) weaving his magic throughout. It was nice to be in Pat Collier’s studio in Perry Vale, SE23, a light-suffused and roomy space, the control room air-conditioned, the place to be at the height of the heat wave!
After the recordings, I travelled more or less for three months, but managed to record some vocals with my portable set-up, which we added to the tracks and mixed over the last month or so. I am thrilled with the results, two new albums, Reverse Rewind and I Stand Alone.
First release from Reverse Rewind is ‘The Theee Graces’, a rock inspired track, with epic lead guitar solo by Dave Ital. It can be found on the landing page of my website tesscallaghan.com, and on Bandcamp, https://tesscallaghan.bandcamp.com/track/the-three-graces. It’s also on my soundcloud, https://soundcloud.com/tesscallaghan.
A new video will be uploaded soon on my Youtube page, many thanks for subscribing if you haven’t yet (!), the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2HGnm1ovNQcW_bJ3Gwl-Mg.
Wishing you a ‘Guten Rutsch’, as the Germans say, or happy slide into 2019!
